OIL. THE THING THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
Now imagine a sharp plot twist.
1871. People drill the ground – and suddenly it starts producing money.
A lot of money.
Very much a lot.
Oil.
Black.
Thick.
Valuable.
The Bradford Oil Field opens – one of the most productive oil fields of its time.
People arrive:
- on foot
- in wagons
- with one suitcase
- with empty pockets
- and eyes full of greedy hope
America doesn’t yet really know what a gas station is, but Bradford is already bathing in oil.
This was one of the richest oil fields in the world.
Not just “pretty good” but so rich that people abandoned homes, families, professions and came here because:
“If you don’t get rich in Bradford – you won’t get rich anywhere.”
In the city:
- wells were drilled right in backyards
- oil flowed through the streets
- the ground literally oozed money
And yes – sometimes it caught fire.
Because safety regulations back then were… philosophical.
In just a few years, Bradford turns from a forest settlement into a global energy center.
This is not an exaggeration.
At one point, up to 75% of the world’s oil was produced here.
A small city but a global impact.
